Darwin Was Wrong

- in my opinion

Johan Blignaut, July 2009

Evolution is regarded by many people as the backbone of the biological sciences. If this “backbone” is wrong then at some time the decisions, work, theories and lives depending on it will disintegrate.

As a student I learnt about evolution and did not question its validity for 30 years till I read a book by a scientist questioning the probabilities. In this article I review literature by mostly evolutionist scientists in three fields:

    • origin of life – For life to originate by evolutionary (materialistic) processes would require that proteins and nucleic acids (DNA) to be formed simultaneously, at the same place and time. The probability is so minute that these chemicals could be formed by random natural means – and the one cannot exist without the other – that evolutionists Stephen W. Hawking (physicist), Richard Dawkins and Carl Sagan have postulated that life began elsewhere in the universe and was “seeded” to earth. They have concluded that life could not have started on earth by random undirected means.

    • The Cambrian Explosion took place 540 million years ago. At that time whole new body plans suddenly appeared without any “evolutionary history”. For 3.3 billion years only simple sponges and single cells existed. Then in a geologically very short period of 10 million years, 50 new phyla appeared. No new phyla have emerged in the 530 million years since. Evolutionary theory cannot explain the sudden appearance of new body plans that emerged in the Cambrian Explosion.

    • irreducibly complex systems – defined as a single system comprised of several well-matched, interacting parts that contribute to the basic function, wherein the removal of any one of the parts causes the system to effectively cease functioning. Such a system cannot be produced gradually – as required by evolutionary theory - it would have to arise as an integrated unit, in one fell swoop, which would require intelligence and design.

Intelligent Design:

If evolution by random natural processes cannot explain life – where do we come from? The data indicates that living organisms are designed by intelligence – the only source of all the information contained within living cells.

The theory of intelligent design holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause - i.e. a mind designed it, not an undirected process such as natural selection.
